Detailed Narrative Description of Project: In 2017 Mercy Corps Mongolia has launched the Resilient Community Program (RCP) that aims to achieve growth and stability in income and social well-being for rural communities by stimulating meat production and export opportunities in its livestock economy. The objective of this assessment is to identify opportunities to address challenges and constraints faced by Mongolian livestock market system and interrelated systems, including animal health, feed and fodder; and breeding. | ||
Detailed Description of Actual Services provided by your Company:
· Collect data using FGDs, Interviews, Secondary data sources · Assess the current state of production and finances comparing traditional and advanced systems · Produce a seasonal calendar for target markets · The market assessment has been carried out using MSD approach:
· Market system and actors mapped at 3 levels- Soum; Aimag/Region; National · Organize consultations with local stakeholders on a package for changing herders’ behavior from the livestock number maximization to adopting productivity-oriented strategies by the use of proper incentive mechanisms · Undertake Problem Tree & SWOT analyses of the meat market system in Mongolia · Provide recommendations for improving RCP`s implementation in short and long term perspective · Propose key interventions and how these should translate into impact in terms of scalability, and sustainability · The Mongolia’s meat sector vision is formulated as “Compete on the international organic meat market” in consideration of the following key factors:
