Client: “Improving Adaptive Capacity and Risk Management of Rural Communities in Mongolia’’ (ADAPT) project
Project Objectives:
- Identify and interview herder organizations near the locations where adaptation measures are planned to be implemented in 2024-2026 within the framework of the project, and conclude resource use agreements with them.
- Strengthen the capacity of contracted herders’ organizations by working with compnaies to implement water, forest, and pasture management measures in 2024-2026.
- Incorporate the opinions of herders and herder organizations in the planning and location selection of adaptation measures to be implemented in 2024-2026 into the 2024 plan, and obtain “Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC)” from local communities if necessary.
- Evaluate the implementation of the RUAs concluded in 2023 and make recommendations for improved measures, and incorporate them into the activities of the herder organizations that will cooperate in 2024-2026.
- Undertake moniotring of the enforcement of RUAs and identify and implement improvement measures
- Prepare training materials to promote good practices of best-perfroming herder organizations
Project duration: June 2023 to April 2025
Expected Results:
1. Identify and establish resource use agreements with herder organizations near the planned sites for adaptation measures
2. Strengthen the capacity of herder organizations to responsibly protect and use the investment sites
3. Obtain FPIC from herders and herder organizations on planned new investment sites
4. Promote good practices of active herder organizations
