The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Center for Policy Research (CPR), is organizing a consultative workshop from April 20–22 to prepare Mongolia’s National Report for the UNCCD.
The workshop aims to strengthen capacity for combating desertification, mitigating land degradation, and supporting the preparation of the National Report on Desertification. Participants include representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, administrations of the 21 provinces (aimags), and civil society.
The workshop will discuss trends in land cover, productivity, and carbon stock changes, as well as Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Indicator 15.3.1 and the implementation of land degradation neutrality targets.
This event is a significant step in Mongolia’s commitment under the UNCCD to regularly report on the progress and results of efforts to combat desertification, land degradation, and drought.
Under a contract with the FAO, the Center for Policy Research (CPR) is providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in drafting the national report, with the objective of completing the first draft prior to COP17 scheduled for August 2026.
